History

Bangkok Airways is Thailand’s first private airliner, which commenced its operation in 1968 as Sahakol Air. The airline initially operated as an air taxi for the oil and gas exploration companies which were working in the Gulf of Siam. However, later in 1989, it was re-launched as Bangkok Airways. The airline company owns three airports:

  • Koh Samui,Airport,  it became functional in 1989.
  • Sukhothai Airport  commenced in 1996
  • Trat Airport began operations in 2003.

Bangkok Airways headquarter is in Chatuchak District, Bangkok. Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth  is the president of the air carrier who holds 92.31% stake in the company.  More than 2000 employees work for the airline where Air Bangkok wholly owns its ancillary Siem Reap Airways.

Fleet Information.

Currently, Bangkok Airways is carrying out operations in the region with 18 aircrafts. These include:

  • Airbus 319, 7 aircrafts
  • Air Bus 320, 3 aircrafts
  • ATR 72-500, 8 aircrafts

Prior to these aircrafts, the airliner was operating on Boeing 717-200s fleet.

Cabin Features

The flights have standard Business class and Economy class cabins. Meal is served for free on all flights. If you are a member of Blue Ribbon Club, you can preorder your meal from the sumptuous menu offered by the airliner to its members. The exclusively designed Blue Ribbon club offers its members extra 10 kg baggage allowance when they check-in. Furthermore, an adult or a child can carry maximum weight of 5 kg as a cabin baggage.
